Wig and Hairpiece Care
How do I clean my wig? What do I use to care for my hairpiece? When is it time to clean my wig?
Wig care and wig maintenance can be an overwhelming process. At Bravadas we will help educate you in every aspect of how to care for it. Transitioning into a wig or hairpiece is a process, and our highly trained professional stylists are here to help with any questions you have.
Your care regimen will differ based on the fiber type of your wig or hairpiece.
If you have synthetic fibers, you’ll need specific products designed to clean and care for it without damage. Even with human hair wigs and pieces, special products should be used because the hair has been processed for construction and is susceptible to damage. You may be able to use high-quality shampoos for chemically treated hair.
All wigs come with manufacturer’s instructions that are recommended, but keep in mind your environment and lifestyle could demand slightly different treatment. In general though, you should clean your wig or hairpiece every 10-14 days of wear. Once you have shampooed and conditioned, the wig should be rinsed with cool water, blotted dry with a towel, and left to dry overnight on a wig stand. You’ll need to keep it on a mannequin or wig stand when not in use.
If you aren’t confident in keeping your wig cleaned and styled properly, we offer cleaning and styling services, which you can read about here.
